Introduction
Original Source: Artificer Guide by Smithers & Sirpsycho
This workbook contains every formulae an artifice can learn, as well as a list on the properties of the reagents needed to make them. It is a complete compendium of useful and useless information. It's also very large, and it's suggested you use 'find' in your browser to get the information you want. It's sorted into categories, and then sorted alphabetically, and finally carefully folded into your head.
Note. This looks vastly different depending on browser. Please, let me know if something incredibly freaky happens like the table being three times the size of the screen, or you discover jesus. Looks best in firefox, unless the worst courier font known to man is what you look for in a webpage.
Note 2: The bit in the corner: I'm using common, uncommon and rare for things you find - it shows how easy it is to find things. Rares you only find 1 of in a room, uncommons you find 'some', and common you find mostly plentifuls. I'm using easy, medium and hard for things you make - the harder the item, the rarer the components needed to make it.
Oooh, new! I made a little index, so you can shoot to the topic you want. But, you know, if you're just browsing for fun. That's weird.
Metals
Adamantite
How to make: a chunk of silver ore, a lump of meteorite, a chunk of iron ore and a lump of pitchblende. Notes: A very powerful alloy, second only to trillian. Fine quality armour evals at very good. Hard to make because of meteorite, and not many things scrap for it (I can only think of star armour), so it's not used often, but it looks so pretty. Quality (out of 8): 7 Fighter eval for armour at highest quality: Very good |
Brass
How to make: a chunk of copper ore and a chunk of zinc ore. Notes: Quality (out of 8): 4 Fighter eval for armour at highest quality: Serviceable |
Bronze
How to make: a chunk of copper ore and a chunk of tin ore. Notes: You can learn the formula for brass from the Library of Artifice. Quality (out of 8): 4 Fighter eval for armour at highest quality: Serviceable |
Copper
Found in: Best place to look is the jungle north of the desert, and SE isle. If not, try hills. Notes: A common raw metal, used in orichalcum, brass and bronze. Quality (out of 8): 3 Fighter eval for armour at highest quality: Serviceable |
Electrum
How to make: a chunk of gold ore and a chunk of silver ore. Notes: Quality (out of 8): 4 Fighter eval for armour at highest quality: Serviceable |
Gold
Found in: Jungles, and occasionally in hills. Notes: An expensive raw metal that is used only in electrum. Quality (out of 8): 3 Fighter eval for armour at highest quality: Serviceable |
Iron
Found in: Arctic regions Notes: Used in adamantite, mithril, orichalcum, steel, and trillian, this is a very useful metal. Quality (out of 8): 3 Fighter eval for armour at highest quality: Serviceable |
Lead
Found in: Hills Notes: This is a horribly weak metal, the weakest in fact. It's sold in the 'ficer store for 30 pieces, which is really overcharging you. Good starter metal if only because it's so easy to get. Quality (out of 8): 1 Fighter eval for armour at highest quality: Very poor |
Mithril
How to make: a chunk of iron ore, a chunk of silver ore, a lump of antimony and a chunk of zinc ore. Notes: Very powerful alloy, and lots of things scrap it - bmp, collapsed mine area are good places to start. As powerful as adamantite, but MUCH easier to get. If you want to make a very good set of armour, this is the best bet. Quality (out of 8): 7 Fighter eval for armour at highest quality: Very good |
Orichalcum
How to make: a chunk of copper ore, a lump of cinnabar, a chunk of iron ore and a chunk of zinc ore. Notes: A powerful alloy, which doesn't use meteorite, weaker than mithril - but I find cinnabar easier to get than antimony. Quality (out of 8): 6 Fighter eval for armour at highest quality: Fine |
Platinum
Found in: Arctic/taiga area. Notes: The only rare metal, it's quite easy to find in the arctic. Used in the most powerful alloy. Quality (out of 8): 3 Fighter eval for armour at highest quality: Serviceable |
Silver
Found in: Jungles. Notes: Used in a lot of alloys. Quality (out of 8): 4 Fighter eval for armour at highest quality: Serviceable |
Steel
How to make: a chunk of iron ore and a lump of coal. Notes: A decent alloy, easy to make and gives blessable armour. The best alloy for a quick start, since it's just coal and iron which are both easy to get in big quantities. Lots of things scrap for steel. Quality (out of 8): 5 Fighter eval for armour at highest quality: Adequate |
Tin
Found in: Arctic/taiga. Notes: Very common. Quality (out of 8): 3 Fighter eval for armour at highest quality: Serviceable |
Trillian
How to make: a chunk of platinum ore, a lump of meteorite, a chunk of iron ore and a lump of cinnabar. Notes: The most powerful alloy, and extremely hard to make in large quantities because of the rarity of meteorite. You can scrap star armour or draqisfang to get trillian, or hunt for hours for meteorite. Good luck getting enough for a platemail. Quality (out of 8): 8 Fighter eval for armour at highest quality: Absolutely Perfect |
Zinc
Found in: Arctic/taiga. Notes: Used in a lot of things, easy to get. Quality (out of 8): 2 Fighter eval for armour at highest quality: Poor |
Animals
Bat Fang
Found in: Star Caverns, Newbie manor, wandering the north woods, lots underneath Burnham (thanks Wong!). Notes: Easy to kill, and found in actual areas, very nice. Dirs to bats: Newbie manor - 8n, e, ne, 3n, open n, 2n, w. Star caverns - quest area. |
Bat Fang
Found in: Star Caverns, Newbie manor, wandering the north woods, lots underneath Burnham (thanks Wong!). Notes: My least favorite common animal, if this is an oil then bad luck. There are bears found all over the map, but they're wandering. The only bear off the top of my head that isn't is in star caverns, which I can't give dirs to |
Boar Tusk
Found in: Just wandering, I think. Let me know otherwise. Notes: This one used to be a common, until I got a boot where I needed to kill 20 of them to get my scorpion love on, and it took 2 people about an hour and we got about 14 and I had a breakdown. |
Bulette Stomach
Found in: 20n, 8w, s, w, s, w, climb slope, climb vine, 2s, d, 2w, 2n, e, open s, s, 2s, smash w, w Notes: Now this is a rare. There's only one, and he's a 6k. Lucky for you, he's also a relatively easy kill and a common kill for many players, so you may have already met mr sharkbull. |
Centaur skin
Found in: Wandering the plains and deserts of Infidian Notes: Another infidian creature, there are a few centaurs all grouped together. |
Chimera skin
Found in: Infidian, zhammar Notes: A fun rare, you can either get one in the tower in zhamarr or ship yourself to Infidian to find some amongst a bunch of fantastical creatures. |
Deer spleen
Found in: Burnham woods, wandering, uuhh. Other places. Notes: Woo! Easy to kill, very common. You can get them wandering around north woods, or hit up like, 12 deer in burnham woods, or any of the deer in other areas. Fun. |
Demon horn
Found in: Newbie manor, zhammar, chaos tower?, underground forest, flaw's area.. they're not exactly RARE Notes: Demon horn is very easy with insider's knowledge - which is what I'll now give to you. Newbie manor demon is 8n e ne n w enter fireplace up. He is very small. If you need more horn, go to flaw's area, destroy/disable the sphere, north, drop a small corpse, summon demon. You should get a level 1 superdemon of death with the world's cutest demon horn. You could also try the many many demon princes we have, because, you know, all the level 1 demons need at least 3 princes each to guide them. |
Dog's Tail
Found in: Wandering, nepeth, andeli, norrich, heh heh, various dogs in other areas. Notes: The easiest dogs are probably in nepeth and the orphanage, and balan, then shoot up to andeli and kill the royal bitches, and if you still need dogs. Well. Norrich has a dog that looks like it needs its numbers thinning out. Nyuck Nyuck. |
Dragon Tongue
Found in: Fubs' Fortress, thranarack, zhammar. (wandering *duck*) Notes: There are a bunch of dragons in the game. Almost all of them are big, and some are far away too. So your best bets are: Baby dragons from Fubs', 7n 2e n all w n e get egg. Red dragon, quest area and destroys scrolls, but quite small. And fairy ring, 20n w all n enter ring ne 2e se 2s all e open e e. |
Duck Feather
Found in: Nonono! Not so fast, slick! Notes: This one started as a joke in a brainstorming session for rare creatures. Demons, dragons, werewolves.. duck. It stuck because there are SO FEW DUCKS in the world, so the rarity comes not from the difficulty of the kill, but the fact that in AA, the duck is nearly extinct. No, I'm not saying where ducks are, but there are 3 areas that I know of that have them. |
Dwarf bone
Found in: Various. Try mining areas, blor's area, and thranarack first. Notes: Best place to look for dwarves is the baker in zhammar and the mother and child in thranarack. Ooh, and dwarf babies. |
Earthquaker skin
Found in: Star Caverns. Notes: Yet another creature that comes from star caverns! Watch out for its mighty snotballs. I mean, snowballs. |
Elf flesh
Found in: Listhalia or however it's spelt. Elven defense force, duendar. shadow elves. Drow elves? Realistically, every area south of tantallon. Notes: There are a lot of elves if you know where to look, but not many easy kills. Listhal has a questy way of getting one free (and edible!) elf flesh. The first room in edf has a few smaller elves in. There is a wandering tiny elf. The littlest elf. |
Fox's Tail
Found in: Uh. I don't know crap about fox areas. Sorry. Wandering though! Notes: Okay, THIS is my least favorite common. Try zhammar, or wandering the woods around tant, or arctic foxes. mail me more creature locations, please. |
Giant's flesh
Found in: Giant meeting. Frost giant village. Rune. Wandering hill giants south of tant. Notes: You can dissect and scalp. I think you can even dissect and ranger stuff. Still, scalping is all you want to do with giants. And make them delicious cakes. |
Gnoll fang
Found in: I think just the gnoll temple? Notes: Quite a hard uncommon. Dirs to temple: 31n 9w 10n 6e ne. |
Gnome bone
Found in: Wandering Infidian, Gemynd? Notes: There's a gnome wandering in and out of Gemynd, as well as some other gnomes around Infidian. One of the harder uncommons, which will hopefully get easier as more areas are added. |
Goblin Fang
Found in: Ravel, wandering.. dalair? Notes: Easy to kill, very common. Wander around outside between Norrich and hermit's plateau area. Ravel is 10w n 2w nw. |
Grasshopper leg
Found in: Wandering near hobbitat Notes: Easiest kill ever, but there's like, two of them. |
Gremlin bone
Found in: Gremlin village. Wandering around ranger camp. Scythe camp. Notes: Can't give out dirs I'm afraid. Lots of gremlins in and around the place, but a bitch to find. |
Hag eye
Found in: Infidian, nightmare forest. Notes: There are about 2 hags every reset in the nightmare forest. It's probably not actually CALLED nightmare forest, but it's the forest that contains nightmares. Sort of far east on the continent, and a bit north. |
Half-elf liver
Found in: Scattered. Nepeth sometimes, paladin estates, curiosity, marika, academy, newbie park, numerolomancerist, Oblivio's, that place south of tant, quarry Notes: Very scattered. There's often just one in an area, so it's not something you can stock up on well. Try a lot of areas out, see how many you can find. |
Hare liver
Found in: Burnham, harkke, wandering Notes: A few in harkke (31n 7w? n enter portal, bring a lightsource), and a couple in burnham, and some wandering. Wandering hares are a lot easier to kill. |
Hobbit hair
Found in: Hobbitat, sometimes in ravel. Notes: Hee. This one is fun to collect. Thin out the numbers of hobbitat, all n from xroads. For their own benefit! Stupid fat hobbitsss. |
Horse hoof
Found in: Anasazi, marika's hometown.. 'other' sources. Notes: This was another joke one which became a reality. There aren't many horses, so eventually once you've destroyed the wild horses in anasazi and the waggon seller's horse, you'll have to turn to pet killing. Remember, thinning out numbers! Again, if you know where to look, this is quite an easy rare ingredient, but again I'm not saying where. |
Hyena tongue
Found in: Swamp/desert area Notes: Pretty rare. You might have better luck than me! Uh. May not exist any more. Yeah. I dunno. If it does it's a rare or something. Anyway, lemme know if you see something that needs it. |
Human bone
Found in: All over Notes: Hmm. Lots of human bone! The question is, which to pluck first? Nepeth slums is a good place to do some necessary evil, and the orphanage. I think there are some human children in the commune, and there are some in the newbie park. Remember, the children are your future. |
Issla scale
Found in: Lizardmen village Notes: I had no idea what this was until I was told. These are scales from lizardmen! Best (only?) place to look is the lizardman village for these. Nice easy rare. |
Jackrabbit liver
Found in: Wandering Notes: Black-tailed jackrabbits don't count as jackrabbits. So, you have to kill 'jackrabbits', around the swamp/ desert area. There aren't many of them. |
Leucrocotta tooth
Found in: Wandering on Infidian Notes: Thanks to Eivu and Rumkitten for this one, it's a rare Infidian creature. It's stag-like and found in forests in the northwest side of Infidian. |
Lynx's tail
Found in: Wandering in the north woods/taiga Notes: From elinom, go e all n, and explore around here. You'll hopefully find some lynxes. Lynxs. Lynxii. |
Monkey's tail
Found in: Skinkwood forest Notes: Another infidian rare! Look to the far north forest, it's called mangrove or skinkwood or something like that. Also, se isle has a few monkeys I think. |
Mouse bone
Found in: Burnham castle, newbie park, probably wandering. Notes: This is one of those where you go 'sure, mice, I can do mice'. And then it takes forever to find them. I can't give out burnham directions, despite there being potentially between 5-24834892 mice. I think there are wandering mice in the forest. Oh, and there are two in the newbie park. |
Musk ox liver
Found in: wandering to the north Notes: Try any area north of elinom, you should find a couple. |
Nutria's tail
Found in: Infidian Notes: A super-rare Infidian creature, try just north of the river by Gemynd. |
Ogre bone
Found in: Wandering, asyvan's domain, rune Notes: Ogres are easiest to find around elinom. Watch out for giant ogres, they pack more of a punch than standard and big ogres. You can dissect and scalp. |
Orc tusk
Found in: Bloody everywhere. Notes: By no means a full list, but off the top of my head - wandering in a six mile radius of dalair, dalair, nepeth, scythe camp, orc gardens, orc outpost, drakhiya, that arctic place to the north, andeli, academy, star caverns, there are all sorts of orcs around, and a number of small ones. Best place to look is dalair because of the large amount of weak orcs closely packed together. From xroads, all w e 4n. |
Packrat's tail
Found in: Star Caverns, harkke Notes: You will find a lot of packrats in star caverns. Also, there are some hiding in a hole in harkke. You need a lightsource for both areas |
Pegasus feather
Found in: Infidian Notes: A very rare Infidian rare, look around the fantastic creatures area. |
Rabbit spleen
Found in: Burnham, wandering, that princes/knight miniquest area, underground forest Notes: You know, whenever you find bunnies in AA, you find a lot of them at once. I'd never noticed that before. Very clever stuff. Blacktailed jackrabbits ARE rabbits, not jackrabbits. Apparently. |
Rat's tail
Found in: Burnham, princess/knight miniquest, other areas I'm sure. Notes: A bit annoying that these and woodrats are seperate races, but there you go. Rats are usually found in PLACES, but woodrats are almost all found wandering. |
Seal spleen
Found in: Wandering near coastlines Notes: kay, when you start to need seal spleen to cast an enchantment, you know you've found some good shit. You can usually find one around tant harbour, and others northeast of elinom. |
Serpentari skins
Found in: Drakhiya Notes: Watch out with this one - after a few offenses (I think 3?), the whole town of drakh will rise up and slay you. And since the town contains all the precious knicknacks you need to live as a 'ficer, you don't want that to happen. |
Snake fang
Found in: Wandering, harkke, burnham, newbie park, princess/knight area?, a bunch of other areas. Notes: This would make an alright common. Snakes are easy to find with some game knowledge, and relatively easy to kill (easier than BEARS for sure). So if you get any cool stuff that requires snake fang, you're in luck. |
Squirrel tail
Found in: Burnham woods, newbie park, harkke Notes: Squirrels are eeeasy, though maybe not if you need 200 tails for breakfast or something. Hit up the newbie park first, then burnham, and if you still need squirrel tail, kill the pumped up harkke squirrels. |
Troll flesh
Found in: Due west of tant, bokwa, wandering the swamp, toll bridge (thanks Wong!) Notes: I can't unfortunately think of many trolls off the top of my head. Aside from Tanus, but he doesn't count. I guess you could TRY Tanus, you know. For science. |
Undead
Found in: Various places, though only a few drop corpses. Notes: The easiest undead I can think of is the butler in newbie manor, 8n e ne n. Haunted ship used to be a good source, but you can't dissect something that vanishes or turns to dust when it dies. The chaos tower leaves corpses, as does the underground forest, but these are all very large kills unfortunately. |
Unicorn horn
Found in: Harkke, paladin estates Notes: Paladin estates dirs, all w, e, a bunch south, ne. The unicorn is hiding in a grove in the northeast of the area. Harrke unicorns are very plentiful however, so this should be no problem. |
Wasp stinger
Found in: Ravel, wandering Notes: Wasps are cool because unless you're under level 6, it's hard to get a large quantity of them - UNTIL you run into a room where there is suddenly 16 or so wasps and they all try to kill you. Try the area south west of tant. |
Werewolf fur
Found in: Star Caverns, Newbie manor Notes: This was one of my suggestions. There is one werewolf in star caverns, and he's a 9k. There are other werewolves, who are MUCH smaller, but they only appear during a full moon. Good luck! |
Wolf claw
Found in: Various Notes: Load up a webpage with a full wolf list, and starting from the top, work your way through killing each one. That is how you gather wolf claw. |
Woodrat tail
Found in: Wandering Notes: Hate this. The only place I know you can get woodrat is wandering the forests of AA. Easy kills, but ridiculously hard to gather a lot of them. Should really have been combined with rat. |
Wyrm Tongue
Found in: Treasure hunts, Infidian Notes: This used to be the rarest of the rare. The only wyrms were in treasure hunts dotted around the map. It would have took HOURS to get a tongue, because of the randomness of the kills. The creatures in question were wyrms, wyverns, chimeras, maybe drakes. However, rejoice now! Because with Infidian a bunch of potential wyrm tongue monsters become available! The lindwyrms are the easiest, and the chimeras and wyverns are your next stop! |
